Join Katie, Emma and Anne for a one hour walking session for the independent walker who would like to build up their walking time on flat ground, with rest stops if needed.
We are able to cater for different walking paces within this Gentle Walking group. Sessions are supportive and aimed at building your confidence as well as giving you an opportunity to walk with others.
Gentle upper and lower body exercises are incorporated into the session, all tailored to you.
“I have been Nordic walking for a year now and my general fitness, flexibility and balance have improved considerably. The exercises and differentiated walking speeds make it accessible to a range of abilities. The added bonus is to be walking with such a friendly group.” Sylvia Terry

Clothing
Please ensure you wear layers of clothing to keep warm. Long loose trousers, a shirt, a fleece or sweatshirt and then a lightweight cagoule/waterproof coat in the event of rain. These layers can then be removed or then added one layer at a time if needs be.
Footwear
Walking boots with a flexible sole and with a deep tread are best footwear.
Do ask Katie if you need any advice about the above.

Katie is a brilliant teacher, enthusiastic and encouraging. The Gentle Walking Group, run by Katie & her excellent team, is enjoyable & sociable & definitely improves overall fitness, posture & balance. The additional exercises at the beginning and end of each class are extremely helpful.

I’m in my 80’s and what I gain from Gentle Nordic Walking is the relief from back pain from my osteoporosis and the exercises help my balance. My daughter always says that I look better and am more alert after my walks with you.

I joined Nordic Walking for the much needed exercise and found everyone so friendly and helpful. The groups are small so you are able to make friends and exercise with a spot of nature thrown in.

Nordic Walking with Katie and her associates Emma and Nicola has made a very positive difference in my life. Newly arrived in Bristol last October, my daughter, knowing Katie ,felt that this was a good way for me to meet people and get exercise in the fresh air. I started with private lessons and was so taken with Katie and her knowledge of the body. I also began to feel much better physically and mentally so much stronger. I am now walking once a week with a lovely group and feel like I have made friends. It is wonderful and I thank Katie for giving me new perspective. Sincerely, Barbara Van Huffel

One of the wisest things I have done since retiring is to take up some form of exercise. I began by joining a water aerobics class which certainly made me stronger. I now find Nordic 4 Walking with the “Gentle” group to be extremely beneficial, particularly with the guidance and encouragement of our knowledgeable leader. Katie Atkins. Rather than the ten minutes I managed when I first began, I can now walk for the whole hour even if only slowly. I really enjoy the exercise, fresh air and the good company.”
